Last of the Summer Vine

Published: 10 September 2025

Saturday and Sunday saw the final events of the summer on the Vine. In total, there have been 24 events since June, which the grass in Vine Gardens will take a while to recover from, including 13 concerts at the bandstand.

The Street Food Festival on Saturday drew a huge crowd - well over 1,000 passing through. Most of the food stalls came from Kent and South East London, with a few from further afield. Choice for lunch included Jamaican, Lebanese, Chinese, Indian, and American dishes - with a great selection of cake and ice cream to follow. Local dance schools and singers on the bandstand provided entertainment for most of the afternoon, and the sun shone. A really great day - thanks to the Town Council staff who put a lot of work in to support the organisers, Heart of Sevenoaks. Thanks too to sponsors Atkinson Brignall Caring Dentistry, Great British Kitchens & Interiors, Kimber & Son Roofing, and Howden Insurance.

Sunday's concert was given by Oxted Band, who drew an enthusiastic audience. Their programme of show tunes, classical numbers and military marches kept us humming along, with impressive solos on cornet and other instruments. At the end we all joined in to sing Jerusalem and Rule Britannia.
