Sevenoaks Town Council is sad to announce the death of Richard J Parry, a town councillor for 24 years and three times Mayor of Sevenoaks. Former Councillor Parry was elected as a Conservative town councillor in 1999 and served the town until 2023. He was elected Mayor in 2002-3, 2007-8 and 2012-13. Councillors are pleased to report that the Sevenoaks town 20mph scheme has come in at more than £40,000 under budget with all signage and road markings completed, and the speed limit now in force. The Town Council had allocated more than £153,000 (including £10,000 contingency) however the bill from the County Council has just been confirmed at £111,270.68. The 20mph scheme was paid for using the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), which is paid by developers who can add to the traffic on town roads, and it has to be used for capital projects. New lights illuminating the trees of the Vine Gardens have been switched on and are currently shining red for Remembrance ahead of Sunday. Sevenoaks Mayor Cllr Libby Ancrum was joined by Cllr James London, Vice Chair of the Sevenoaks Royal British Legion, on Tuesday [Nov 5] for the switch-on. Sevenoaks has been twinned for many years with Pontoise in France and Rheinbach in Germany. The twinning arrangements are coordinated by a group of volunteers with a small grant each year from the Town Council. Following a request from Italy, Sevenoaks Town Council are reaching out to the community to see if there is interest from any volunteers to start a new twinning arrangement. Town councillors have welcomed progress on the new East-West walking wheeling & cycling route after work started on October 28. The new route is expected to be finished by Spring 2025. The scheme, which was proposed by SDC and KCC, has £1.2million funding from Active Travel England and aims to provide a new walking, wheeling and cycling lane between A25 Worships Hill and B2019 Seal Hollow Road in Sevenoaks. Town councillors are to bid to protect trees after large areas of woodland were recently cleared in Kippington due to Ash Dieback. Concerns about extensive recent felling of trees were discussed by Town councillors earlier this week. Ash Dieback has led to large areas being cleared. It isn’t known how many of the trees were affected by Ash Dieback, a fungal disease in Ash trees which causes leaf loss, crown dieback and eventually death of the tree. Read More...

A club run by Sevenoaks Town Council aims to support young people struggling with school avoidance and other issues that are stopping them from going into training and employment. House in the Basement (HiTB) has partnered with Sevenoaks District Council and Millwall Community Trust to run sessions for young people aged 11-17 who are Not in Education, Employment or Training. These sessions are an opportunity to develop skills within a small group of young people, to hear from inspiring speakers from a range of different back grounds as well as taking part in hands-on activities. The Mayor of Sevenoaks Cllr Claire Shea officially launched the Enterprise Car Club in Sevenoaks at the Climate Fair on Saturday, May 4. The Town Council is partnering with Enterprise which offers residents the opportunity of an hourly or daily vehicle self-service hire, via an app, as and when needed. Two hybrid vehicles, based at Bat and Ball Centre carpark, are in the scheme. Special joining discounts for Sevenoaks residents are being offered and hirers only pay for any fuel they actually use.
