Back to school – for a special birthday

Published: 27 May 2025

We were delighted to be invited to Lady Boswell’s School’s 350th birthday on Friday. Our son and daughter were there between 1985 and 1992, and found it a caring and supportive place to learn. It still is, despite having doubled in size.

The school hall was set out with an exhibition of Lady Boswell’s history, going back over 120 years. Today’s students gave us a confident and engaging explanation of the display, and had really done their research on how the school developed. We found familiar names in the old registers and photos, and met many former students – some of whom had been at the old school in London Road.

Then came a tour of the classrooms – again led by students who took us round the Forest School and the gardens, as well as the new extensions. All the children were keen to talk about the work they were doing on history and maths, and we saw lots of creative output. The ethos and values of Lady Boswell’s are set out all round the school.

The story behind England’s oldest state primary school has been covered in the national media, you can read the BBC article here. Lady Boswell’s School’s contribution to educating young people in Sevenoaks today is stronger than ever.
