Sevenoaks wins three ‘Gold’ awards and ‘Outstanding’ at South & South East in Bloom Competition

Sevenoaks has done it again! Sevenoaks in Bloom won three Gold awards at the South & South East in Bloom awards ceremony on Friday 25 September at RHS Garden Wisley, a fantastic achievement following a massive community effort.

Sevenoaks Town Council’s youth café, House in the Basement, also achieved ‘Outstanding’ in the ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood Award’ category at the awards.

In July, judges visited Sevenoaks to see our beautiful parks, flowerbeds and creative displays, as the town proudly took part in the competition. As this year marked Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday, the Sevenoaks in Bloom theme reflected this.

Volunteer gardeners from Sevenoaks Soroptimists, Sevenoaks Living Landscape Project, and West Kent Housing, as well local resident volunteers, all support the Sevenoaks in Bloom effort. As the judges toured the town, they met many of the dedicated volunteers who work alongside the Town Council to maintain the open spaces and flower displays around town.

Rockdale Village is also a major contributor to Sevenoaks in Bloom, and this year their residents got involved with gardening, building homes for wildlife and making stunning knitted and papier-mâché creations. The judges were very impressed with their Attenborough-themed garden beds.

The Sevenoaks in Bloom team were also delighted that eight local schools took part this year through a variety of creative and environmental projects.

Sevenoaks Town Council thanks everyone who supported the 2026 competition entry, including all partners, volunteers and this year’s sponsor, NFU Mutual Sevenoaks and Meopham.

The Mayor of Sevenoaks, Cllr Victoria Granville, said, “Congratulations to the Sevenoaks in Bloom team for winning three ‘Gold’ medals at the South and South East in Bloom awards at Wisley, including the Town Council’s Open Spaces team and the many dedicated community volunteers. House in the Basement’s ‘Outstanding’ award reflects the contributions of manager Daren Mountain and all the young people involved. Above all, I commend Cllr Dr Merilyn Canet for leading the Sevenoaks in Bloom campaign.”
