Sevenoaks will join communities across the UK in celebrating the Love Your Local Market campaign this month, led by the National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA).
To mark the occasion, on Saturday 23 May, Sevenoaks Town Council will host a free kids’ activity stall with rock painting from 10.30am to 12.30pm in Sevenoaks town centre, under the Bligh’s Clocktower. Visitors will also be able to enjoy live music from guitarist Paul Malsom.
Love Your Local Market celebrates the vital role markets play in supporting local communities, independent traders and town centres, while showcasing the unique character of each market.
Residents and visitors can enjoy Sevenoaks Markets twice a week throughout the year:
- Wednesday: 8am to 2pm – High Street
- Saturday: 9am to 4pm – High Street & Bligh’s Walk
Last year, Sevenoaks celebrated 100 years since the citizens of Sevenoaks Town bought the rights to their market. However, the town’s market history stretches back much further, with records dating back more than 1,000 years.
The Wednesday and Saturday High Street Market includes stalls with fresh fruit and vegetables, plants and flowers, bread and baked goods. The Saturday market in Bligh’s Walk often features artisan crafts, jewellery, clothing, speciality cheeses, honey and other handmade products from local traders.
Sevenoaks Town Council encourages residents and visitors to come along, support local businesses and celebrate the town’s historic markets.
