At the recent Sevenoaks Town Council Youth Services Committee meeting, members thanked Richard Dowling, Community Development Manager at West Kent Housing Association for his dedication to youth outreach. Richard is stepping down from the Youth Services Committee after five years.
Richard, along with other members of West Kent’s team, has engaged with many young people at community events and during weekly outreach sessions in areas such as Greatness Recreation Ground and the Vine. Richard has also provided vital support with House in the Basement youth café in Sevenoaks, promoting it to young people.
Cllr Chloe Gustard, Chair of the Youth Services Committee, commented, “
We want to thank Richard Dowling and the West Kent team for the incredible support they’ve given young people in Sevenoaks. From their detached youth work to the Young Adventurers clubs, they’ve created safe spaces, opportunities, and real care for families who need it most.”
The Youth Services Committee collaborates with other youth service providers to assess the needs of young people in Sevenoaks. It supports youth activities with the aim of fostering personal development and encouraging youth engagement.
The Committee is made up of Town Councillors, as well as representatives from Sevenoaks Youth Council, Sevenoaks Area Youth Trust, Sevenoaks District Council, National Trust and House in the Basement youth café.
The Youth Services Committee is encouraging Sevenoaks town residents aged 11-18 to apply now to become a Youth Councillor. It’s a great opportunity for young people to get involved in the community, work alongside local leaders and develop confidence and skills.
