Local Schools Invited to Join Rail Safety Project!

Published: 01 May 2025

Sevenoaks Town Council and the Darent Valley Community Rail Partnership are thrilled to be working with the Rail Safe Friendly project to bring vital rail safety education to local schools along the Darent Valley Rail Line. Thanks to dedicated funding, these interactive sessions are designed to teach young people how to stay safe around the railway while also offering a fascinating glimpse into our region’s rail heritage.

On Friday, 21st March, Year 6 pupils from The Granville Primary School became the first group to take part in this exciting initiative. Their visit to the historic Bat & Ball Station began with a short talk on the station’s Victorian history, delivered by Daren Mountain and Holly Brazier Manager and Deputy Manager of House in the Basement Youth Café and Sevenoaks Town Council. This was followed by an engaging rail safety presentation from the Rail Safe Friendly project, where pupils learned essential skills for travelling safely by train.

After watching an eye-opening safety video, students at The Granville Primary School put their creativity to work, designing powerful posters to raise awareness about railway dangers and safe travel habits. Their dedication first earned them a Bronze Award as a Rail Safe School. But now, we are beyond thrilled to announce that not only are they the first school to visit Bat & Ball Station as part of this initiative, but they are also the first to achieve the GOLD award!
