Sevenoaks Town Council has been awarded a £260,000 grant from Kent County Council for a major new wayfinding scheme.
The Town Council is working on this initiative with Sevenoaks Town Team, a partnership bringing together local authorities, transport providers, businesses and community organisations.
The wayfinding scheme will help residents and visitors navigate Sevenoaks more easily and improve connections between the town centre and public transport.
The funding has been awarded through Kent County Council’s Local Bus Intervention Grant, using Bus Service Improvement Plan Funding awarded to Kent County Council, as part of the Government’s National Bus Strategy.
The new network of signs will cover Sevenoaks town centre, station approaches and key bus stop locations, providing clear directions and walking information to help people navigate between bus and rail services and destinations around the town.
Plans include signage connecting the High Street, London Road, Sevenoaks Bus Station and Sevenoaks Railway Station, with routes also extending towards Bat & Ball, Knole Park and other community destinations.
The scheme is intended to make Sevenoaks easier to navigate for residents, commuters and visitors, while encouraging walking and greater use of public transport. It will also help people discover local shops, businesses, attractions and cultural venues.
Accessibility will be central to the new signage, with proposals incorporating features such as large fonts, high-contrast colours and clear iconography. Sign locations and heights will also take into account wheelchair users and people with visual impairments.
Sevenoaks Town Council will provide £51,225 in match funding, bringing the total planned investment in the project to £311,225.
The Mayor of Sevenoaks, Cllr Victoria Granville, said, “We are delighted that this essential infrastructure will benefit Sevenoaks residents and visitors. I would like to thank Sevenoaks Town Council staff for their hard work and perseverance in bringing the project forward.”
