Mayor of Sevenoaks Launches weekly Sevenoaks Breast Cancer Care Support Group

10.30 a.m. Tuesday 6th June 2017

House in the Basement Youth Café (Stag Theatre)

The Mayor, Cllr Maxine Chakowa has chosen Breast Cancer Care as her charity for her civic year.

In addition to raising funds and awareness for the national charity, the Mayor also wants some funds to be used locally.  Funding the Sevenoaks Breast Cancer Care Support Group is part of this initiative.

The Mayor is grateful to the Province of West Kent Freemasons who have generously offered to underwrite the costs for three years relating to the Support Group.

The Mayor is also grateful to Breast Cancer Care who will be providing supporting literature and information for those attending.

Local organisations have also kindly donated their time to provide related half hour informative talks including 13th June Nutrition talk by Jennie Gough, 27th June Style and Colour workshop by Fleur McCrone and 4th July Health and Fitness Talk by Sevenoaks Ladies Joggers.  More to be confirmed.

The weekly Sevenoaks Breast Cancer Support Group will be manned by volunteers 10.30 – 12.30 on Tuesday mornings.  The support group is free to attend and fully accessible.

Mayor, Cllr Maxine Chakowa said “I'm so delighted that we have been given the opportunity and funding to have a support centre in Sevenoaks. It’s such a pleasure to have this in my mayoral year and be able to have it running for the next 3yrs. I would like to thank the West Kent Freemasonry for their generous donation to make this happen”.

Steph Harrison, Breast Cancer Care Fundraiser said “I am really pleased that we are setting up this group in my home town of Sevenoaks.  Having had breast cancer myself I know just how important support can be, so having something local for those who need care and information is a vital resource and something I am proud to be part of”.
